Cynthia Romano is the founder of Chrysalis Management LLC, an advisory firm which provides financial and operational support for small and middle market transitions, transactions and turnarounds. With 25 years of experience in growth planning, performance improvement, transaction support, and investment analysis, Ms. Romano has spent her career helping companies with management assessment and coaching, cash management, capital sourcing, business continuity/succession planning, M&A advisory, organizational restructuring, creditor challenges and interim management.

Prior assignments have included serving as an advisor to management and interim management including:

  • Support $40M family business to slowly transition control to next generation. Improved performance and succession plan resulted from organizational redesign, new management and budgeting processes, and coaching.
  • Capital sourcing advisor to recently launched specialty food startup. Supported creation of financial projections and found a $1.0M credit facility, which was designed around the needs of projected growth into big box stores.
  • Performance improvement support to $6M retailer enabled refinancing and return to profitability within a year.
  • Interim CFO for a $75M oil distributor who experienced liquidity issues due to inadequate hedging and contract arrangements. Company significantly more profitable than prior years despite lower sales volume.
  • Interim COO for a $30M manufacturer who had not posted a profitable month since exiting from bankruptcy 14 months prior; positive profit achieved within 4 months as a result of operational improvements.
  • Advisor to a $300M, multinational brokerage firm experiencing liquidity issues; operational restructuring improved cash sufficient to pay secured lender 79% within 2 months, enabling management buy-out and refi.
  • Interim GM for an ambulance company with 911 contract liabilities and insufficient cash for fulfillment; achieved a stock sale within 6 weeks that preserved all jobs and allowed the owner to exit with no contingent liabilities.
  • Liquidating agent for retailer under Ch. 7 Trustee control; gross recovery exceeded appraiser’s valuation by 9x.

Previously, Ms. Romano was a Manager at Bain Corporate Renewal Group LLC and Managing Director at CRG Partners Group LLC managing performance improvement assignments as well as turnarounds, workouts, and liquidations. Prior, she founded and sold MediaMaker, a technology company, and was a Financial Analyst for Hub Angels LLC, managing the investment group’s due diligence.

Ms. Romano holds a BA from Brown University and an MBA from the Sloan School at MIT. She was a board member of the Turnaround Management Association’s Northeast Chapter and co-winner of its 2004 award for Small Company Turnaround of the Year. She is also a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), Women Helping Other Women (WHOW), and the Financial Women’s Association (FWA).
